In his book, Maker’s Diet, Jordan Rubin suggests some “Make-Sense Practices to enhance your physical health” and help you be a good steward of your body.
- Take time each day to be out in the sun (the skin uses the energy from the sun to manufacture vitamin D for the body)
- Spend time in nature and in touch with the soil (Time spent in nature is calming and refreshing. The soil contains homeostatic soil organisms (HSO) that can boost our immune system.)
- Go to bed before midnight (experts tell us that one hour of sleep before midnight is equivalent to four hours afterward)
- Allow yourself to sweat (artificially preventing perspiration is unhealthy because it is the Maker’s method of safely cooling the body while excreting numerous toxins)
- Do not use artificial sweeteners (some of these are downright deadly because of their carcinogenic properties – chief among sinners is aspartame, which is marketed as NutraSweet or Equal)
- Avoid excessive showering (too much soap and water can actually rob your hair and body of the natural oils and alter your body’s pH)
- Do not use antibacterial soaps (they destroy the skin’s natural pH, leaving it unprotected; antibacterial soaps contain triclosan, which may be absorbed through the skin and pose a risk to the liver). Instead choose soaps that do not destroy the good bacteria on your skin, only the bad. [Young Living Oils has a safe hand purifier called Thieves. See information about Young Living here.]
- Avoid taking medication when possible (Most medications have side effects and can cause major problems in your body. Instead, focus on prevention and nutritional options.)
- Do not live in a home with toxic paint, mold, paraffin, and candles (they contain highly toxic materials and countless other toxins)
- Breathe properly instead of just shallow breathing (the body thrives on oxygen)
- Chew your food well (chewing signals the body to release saliva containing enzymes which provide us with proper digestion)
- Avoid using plastic and aluminum wrap (they release or leach carcinogenic toxins into foods, especially when used in cooking)
- Exercise on a daily basis (the longest lived peoples in human history usually walked everywhere they went)
